When I ask Teammates, “what’s in your 401k?” the answer is usually the dollar amount. What I’m really asking is, WHAT is your 401k invested in? Unfortunately, not very many people can answer that. According to Fidelity, in 2025 about 63% of 401k participants in their plans were invested in the target date funds, better known in the Nucor plan as the “Lifepath Index Funds”. If you have never touched your 401k investments since you started working at Nucor, chances are, that’s what you are invested in since that is your default. However, if you like to manage your own investment choices, now would be a great time to take a look and rebalance (we recommend you do it at least once per year).
